Azerbaijan, Bulgaria conduct political consultations

Azerbaijan and Bulgaria have conducted political consultations in Sofia.

Representing Azerbaijan in political consultations, Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov met Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Cristian Vigen, deputy chair of People`s Assembly Maya Bojidova Manolova, minister for economy and energy Dragomir Yovchev, President`s secretary for political affairs Tikhomir Stoychev and deputy Foreign Minister Angel Velichkov.

The sides praised current level of the bilateral relations and noted the two countries enjoyed huge potential to further develop cooperation.

Khalafov underlined the significance of final investment decision on Shandeniz 2, saying Azerbaijan would make great contribution to ensuring Europe`s energy security.

During the consultations, both sides stressed the importance of further expanding cooperation in economic, humanitarian, educational, tourism and agricultural areas.

Khalafov briefed the Bulgarian officials on the current state of Azerbaijan-EU relations. He said his country was interested in establishing partnership ties with the organization. The Deputy Minister said Azerbaijan and the EU had simplified visa procedures, and the sides would sign readmission agreement this year.

Khalafov noted the necessity of changing status-quo on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, expressing hope that the EU would make effective efforts in this regard, AzerTAc reports.
