Richard Morningstar: "There is a strong partnership between the U.S. and Azerbaijan, and I am sure that it will strengthen in future”

Today, the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan held a ceremony on the occasion of Independence Day of the United States, APA reports.

U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar noted that today the U.S. celebrates its 238th Independence Day and informed the guests about the history of the country's independence.

Richard Morningstar in his speech also touched upon US-Azerbaijan bilateral relations: "The United States for more than 20 years supports the sovereignty and independence of Azerbaijan. We continue our work with Azerbaijan to encourage democratic, prosperous and secure society. Despite the fact that in our relations there are periods of recession, between the U.S. and Azerbaijan, there is a strong partnership and I am confident that this partnership will only further strengthened. Secretary of State John Kerry noted that the United States United States is committed to this relationship and to ensure an even brighter future for all Azerbaijanis."

Finance Minister Samir Sharifov noted in his speech that Azerbaijan and the United States combined sincerely friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation, "Azerbaijan attaches great importance to developing relations with the United States. Expansion of relations in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres is gratifying. Established a fruitful framework for the expansion of bilateral ties. Azerbaijan shares with the United States shared values such as global and regional security and democratic values, respect for human rights, tolerance. U.S. companies are involved in projects initiated by Azerbaijan, playing a significant role in Europe's energy security", - the minister said.

Touching upon the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict the minister said that Azerbaijan in the solution of the problem has high hopes for the U.S. as the OSCE Minsk Group and the United States appreciates the position of official Washington on the unacceptability of the status quo.

"Our cooperation will continue in the future towards ensuring global energy security, stability in the region. Last year, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and the United States totaled $ 1.4 billion", Samir Sharifov said.
