US ambassador believes in success of joint efforts on combat against trafficking

US ambassador Richard Morningstar believes in the success of joint efforts with Azerbaijani government in fighting trafficking in humans.

Large-scale joint operations to persecute criminals, protect victims and prevent exploitation of the most indigent social categories are the most effective way of fighting trafficking, US ambassador in Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar.

He believes in the success of joint efforts with Azerbaijani government in fighting modern forms of slavery, particularly, sexual and labor exploitation.

“Through our joint efforts, we are able to put an end to the modern form of slavery, restoring right and honor of men, women and children across the country”, ambassador Morningstar said.

Sources in the US embassy said that Morningstar held a reception on Monday on Azerbaijan’s achievements in fighting trafficking in humans. The reception was attended by members of government, representatives of the civil community and international organizations.

Speaking before the guests, the ambassador noted that over the past years Azerbaijani government has taken important steps in expansion and strengthening legal frameworks on criminal cases, related to human trafficking. The government has also established relations with partners from NGOs for expansion of services on rehabilitation and social reintegration of trafficking victims.

The ambassador listed definite actions that were taken within the framework of the joint activity of the US embassy and the government of Azerbaijan.

Among them he listed trainings for specialists of law enforcement bodies and legislative spheres, financing of familiarizing trips of officials and representatives of NGOs, as well as provision of material support to the shelters for trafficking victims.
