The 7th Annual Gabala International Music Festival, organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Culture and Tourism Ministry, showcased Azerbaijani culture and musical performances. To Azerbaijan’s culture, the opening ceremony for the festival began with the unveiling of a large-scale model tar, a famous Azerbaijani musical instrument. The model tar stood 5 meters height and was constructed with 76,000 hazelnuts. This artwork was assembled by eight artists over the course of a 10 day period. One of the participating artists, Aslan Agaseferov, said that they used Gabala walnuts, hazelnuts, and chestnuts to symbolize the popular Azerbaijani treats that are traditionally served with tea.

The festival was held from July 25-31 in the ancient city of Gabala, highlighted the musical talents of artists from eight countries that include Italy, Austria, Germany, Spain, Ukraine, Croatia, Israel, and Russia. The seven days festival acts as a celebration of friendship and music, and the promotion of Azerbaijani music traditions throughout the world. Additionally, the festival sought to highlight the cultural values of both the West and the East.
